MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY - Bringing history to life is the plan for the Kentucky Chautauqua Performance Feb. 21 at the Duncan Center Museum.
According to director Shara Snodgrass, the 2 p.m. performance will bring to life Anna Mac Clarke, the first black Women's Army Corps officer to command a white unit.
"We always celebrate Black History Month in February, and I was trying to find an event that would draw everyone together," Snodgrass said. "We have always had history exhibits, but I think living history connects people to it better than just seeing an exhibit."
Snodgrass said the Chautauqua group has 20 to 25 performers, and they reenact history only of Kentuckians.
"People can relate a little more closely because they are watching the history of people from Kentucky," she said.
In previous performances by the group at the Duncan Center, attendance has ranged from 20 to 60 people.
"I am hoping to have attendance from people across the board," she said. "Obviously we are hoping for as many people as possible."
The performance, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Greenville Tourism Commission and Kentucky Humanities Council. For more information, contact the Duncan Cultural Center at 338-2605 or visit www.duncanculturalcenter.com.
